When deciding on whether or not MEECA is for me:

Q:  What are the requirements to be accepted into MEECA?

  •  Be on track to graduate with your class and meet minimum standards in credits & performance. 
  • Credit requirements are:  end of grade 9 with at least 6 credits, end of grade 10 with at least 12 credits, and end of grade 11 with at least 18 credits. 
  •  While there are no GPA requirements, students may be asked to complete a student success plan with the Early College Coordinator.
  • Both student and parent attend a MEECA Information Session and student applies to the Gresham Barlow Web Academy by the deadline.
  • Student needs to test proficient in reading, writing, and math on the College Placement Test at Mt. Hood Community College. 

Q:  What steps do I need to take to be in MEECA?

  •  Find link called Applying for the 2012-13 School Year, which is located at the top of www.meeca.org and follow steps.

Q:  What if I am a home schooled student?

  • Eligibility for MEECA requires a transcript from an accredited high school; GBWA/MEECA cannot award high school credit for home-school work.

Q:  Where will I go to take my classes?

  • After being accepted into MEECA, all course work is done on the college campus.

Q:  How will I get my high school credit?

  • MEECA students take and are expected to pass with a C or better certain courses that will count as both college and high school credit. 

Q:  What will it cost me to be in MEECA?

  • MEECA will pay for up to $1,250.00 for tuition and fees each year for the 3 terms of Fall, Winter, and Spring, as well as $100 toward books.  Any expense over what MEECA doesn’t pay will be covered by the student.   Students will most likely have book costs, since $100 is all that MEECA will  pay.

Q:  Where will I graduate from high school?

  • MEECA students will graduate from the Gresham Barlow Web Academy once they have earned the required number of credits and met all of the Oregon State Standards. 

Q:  Do I have to withdraw from my former HS?

  • Yes, MEECA students must withdraw from their former home high school at the end of the school year and enroll in the Gresham Barlow Web Academy.

Q:  Will I be able to take any classes at my former HS?

  • Yes, if the high school from which you are coming is part of the Gresham Barlow School District.  However, IF THERE IS SPACE available, one elective class may be taken.

Q:  If I do MEECA, am I able to participate in extracurricular activities, such as sports or speech team,  at my former HS?

  • Yes, if the high school from where you are coming is part of the Gresham Barlow School District.

Q:  If I do MEECA, am I able to go to dances and other activities at my former high school? 

  •   You would go as the guest of another student and would have to have paperwork signed each time you wish to att

Q:  Will I be able to go through graduation at my former HS?

  • No, if you are in MEECA, you are no longer considered a student at your former high school.

Q:  What if I want to attend a four year college/university after I graduate?

  • You could apply to the college/university of your choice as a freshman and would be expected to meet all of the criteria for which your preferred college is asking. 
  •  If you either do not meet the criteria for the four year school as an entering freshman or just want to go as a transfer student, you will need to take at least one term at MHCC or another college after you graduate from high school and meet all of the transfer requirements your preferred school requires.
  • Of course, you would apply to the college by their deadlines and submit all that is required by each specific college/university. 

Q:  What have four year colleges/universities said about MEECA/GBWA?

  •   Students and parents have reported colleges being quite pleased to consider a student who has participated in an early college opportunity such as MEECA. 
  • Every college/university has their own specific standards and policies about this, so students would need to check with their preferred choices.

Q:  How will I know what classes to take?

  • Students who are accepted into MEECA will meet with the Early College Coordinator and an educational plan will be created to ensure all courses required for high school graduation are taken through specific college courses. 

Q:  What are the requirements to stay in MEECA? 

  •  MEECA students must make C’s or higher each term to continue in MEECA and take at least 12 college credits per term. 

Q:  What kind of support will I have as I go through MEECA? 

  • The Early College Coordinator will provide most of the support through individual and group meetings and students will have access to college resources, such as the College Learning Center. 
  • Students are expected to notify the Early College Coordinator at the first sign of any frustration that may interfere with college success and to connect early with their college instructors, especially when questions or concerns arise within a particular class.
  • Through the Gresham Barlow Web Academy, counselors will be available to assist with the college application experience.
