Getting Started

Below are the steps to get started as an Metro East Early College Academy student attending Mt. Hood Community College. It is important to follow each step in the order presented to better ensure your enrollment in MEECA.

  1.    If you have not already done so, apply to Metro East Early College Academy through the Gresham-Barlow Web Academy website. Please visit www.gbwebacademy.org to complete the online application and click on “Apply Now” to fill out the online application. Please be sure to check the box for the “MEECA” program.
  2.    If you have not already done so, attend the MEECA Information Session, required for students and parents.
  3. Complete the MHCC On Line Admission Form Available at www.my.mhcc.edu/ics/admissions  (There is no cost to do this and you are not committed to attend.)
  4.  Review the college placement testing information. Please download the placement test practice information and spend some time checking out the links prior to taking your placement tests at the college. It is our strong recommendation that you spend 30 - 45 minutes on www.math.com the night before your placement test to refresh your basic math skills.
  5. Call 503-491-7678 at MHCC for testing information details and procedures.  You will need to complete the MHCC Admission Form at least 48 hours before taking the CPT (College Placement Test).  Taking the CPT is required by the community college and will help to accurately place you in your classes. There are separate tests for reading, writing, and math. Please take all three and obtain a copy of the scores and course placements for you to bring to your meeting with your Early College Coordinator.  At the time of testing, do not sign up for the New Student Group Advising Workshop at MHCC.
  6. If you will be under 16 by next September 1, there are additional steps to take for admission into MHCC.  Students under the age of 16 must follow the underage policies as outlined in The MHCC Enrollment of High School & Underage-age Students Policy & Procedures.  When you have completed all of these steps and have been accepted into MHCC, you can then proceed to 6. Step #5 and #6 must be completed by May 1.
  7.  Email your Early College Coordinator, Nancy Fisser,  (fisser@meeca.org), to indicate you are now ready to schedule your appointment.  You will receive an email with your appointment date, time and location for your meeting.
  8. Download and complete the MHCC High School Permission. Students of high school age are required by MHCC to have this form on file at MHCC.  You will give this completed High School Permission Form to the MEECA Early College Coordinator during your scheduled meeting.
  9. Meet with Early College Coordinator and bring with you your (1) CPT (College Placement Test) scores and placements, (2) your high school transcript which has credits earned through semester 1 of current year(3)your second semester class schedule, (4)  and your completed and signed Mt. Hood High School Permission Form.
  10.  At the end of your meeting with your Early College Coordinator, you will know if you are accepted into MEECA.  You will also know if this is how you wish to proceed.  If you are accepted and wish to proceed, the next step will be to register for classes.
  11. At the end of your meeting with your Early College Coordinator, you will also have an education plan so you will know which courses for which to register.
  12. Let your current high school counselor know of your plans to proceed with MEECA for the next school year.
  13.  Once registered for courses, highlight, copy and then paste your schedule AND your Course and Fee Statement into an email and send to your Metro East Early College Academy Coordinator at fisser@meeca.org .  Changing a schedule after it has been submitted requires the approval of the Early College Coordinator AND the submission of the new schedule AND Course and Fee Statement.
  14.  Formally withdraw from your current high school at the end of the school year.
  15.  Immediately after withdrawing from your current high school, go into the Gresham Barlow Web Academy to formally enroll at the GBWA.
  16.  Attend the MHCC New Student Orientation in September
  17.  Purchase your books.
  18.  For the $100 book reimbursement, bring original receipts attached to the book refund (see link at the top of  www.meeca.org for form) personally to the Gresham Barlow Web Academy.  You must have a current schedule and course and fee statement on file to receive the $100 book reimbursement.
  19.  Attend your classes and begin you college experience.
